The Recollective First Show at White Rabbit, Iowa City

The Re:Collective is showing works on the following 5 pages at White Rabbit, Iowa City

Accumulation occurs with little order.
Then one day an unconscious triage occurs.
The objects with rounded edges roll to the side,
the ones with corners can be stacked.
Primary colors are placed on the sill;
darker shades end up in a drawer. Wide eyes
group together and enlarge their stare.
The idea behind each object shimmers when
you pick it up, then disappears
beneath its skin.

Objects outlive us. The Re:Collective gathers things remaindered and forlorn and arrange them in a
temporary home, They are offered to you
with ongoing and amused love.

Memory Bank

The Memory Bank has enough string to tie around your finger for all sorts of memories, large and small, fragmented and compelling...

Magic Mountain Skier

The skier is in a diorama of mountain snow, in front of a vintage snow photography. On the inside of the metal box lid, an excerpt from the chapter 'Snow' from Thomas Mann's Magic Mountain can be pulled out and read.

Loved Ones Far Away

The charming dogs assembled in this box all love one another but are sometimes torn apart by distance. The caption above the antique post card reads:
In the middle of the night one friend listened to the BBC Worldservice, knowing the other on the distant side of the globe would be listening too. Awake in the dark, it was that thin colored thread that kept them invisibly tied.

Long Division

Long Division is a meditation on the woes of the world and the joys of childhood...The box lid has a vintage photo of a child and muses on the statistics that frighten us, then suggests we look at the equation of what delights a small child and for what amount of time. The interior holds 4 toys, each with the amount of time of enjoyment: a bear, a jack in the box (negative seconds because it is scary), drummer boy and rocking horse.

Justice League

Justice League is a box of 4 useable gavels of all sizes, arranged by county, state, federal and supreme. The interior rim of the lid has the lyrics to If I Had A Hammer, and the inside lid has an excerpt from Kafka's "Before The Law"

Incidental Second Thoughts

Please allow me to show you some of my recent work

A Humble Slice of Humanity

You Got My Goat

Caption on the Lid: So you got my goat...

Caption inside the box:

But there’s more of us...
We live
under the bridge
near the van
down by the river.

And our name is Gruff...
